The first Xiongguan in the world, namely Jiayuguan, is located at the western end of Hexi Corridor in Gansu Province, 5 kilometers west of Jiayuguan City in Gansu Province. It is the first pass at the western end of the Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty, and it is also the main traffic route of the ancient “Silk Road.

The “First Xiongguan” tower was rebuilt in 1372 (the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty). It is square and has two east and west gates. There is a “corner tower” at the four corners of the city head and an “enemy tower” at the middle section of the north and south city walls. The wall is heavily fortified, majestic and solid.
03
The three lines of defense overlap and maintain each other, forming a military defense system of five miles and one Buddha, ten miles and one hill, thirty miles and one fort, and one hundred miles and one city. The “first gate” is mainly in the inner city, with brick walls on the west, doors on the east and west, and the “Guanghua Gate” on the east, meaning that the purple air rises from the east and shines brightly. The West was a “soft and distant gate,” meaning a gentle way to reach the distance and stabilize the western border. There’s a three-story log cabin on the doorstep. The east gate and the west gate each have an urn city, and there is a Luo city outside the west gate, which is connected to the north and south of the outer city. There is a “Jiayuguan” gate leading to the outside of the gate, and a Jiayuguan building was built on it.
04
Jiayuguan is the starting point of the westernmost end of the Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty, located at the junction of the central and western parts of the Hexi Corridor. The widest point of the corridor is 15 kilometers from north to south, and the narrowest point is only 8 kilometers. Jiayuguan is currently the most complete preservation of a pass, known as the first pass in the west of the river, the world’s first majestic beauty, it is an important stop on the Silk Road, but also the only intersection of the Great Wall culture and Silk Road culture.
