Nanjun is a county in ancient China, which began in the Qin Dynasty. It is located on the south bank of the Han River. He was located in Jiangling County (now Jingzhou, Hubei Province), and in the late Eastern Han Dynasty and The Three Kingdoms Period, he was located in the Public Security Department. In the Tang Dynasty, Nanjun was renamed Jiangling Jun and later Jiangling Fu.

After the Three Kingdoms, Jiangling was mostly used as a substitute for Guinshi, but during the Tang Dynasty, it was abolished and incorporated into Jiangling Prefecture, and during the Yuan Dynasty, Jiangling Prefecture was changed to Jiangling General Administration, and then to Shanglu General Administration, and after liberation, Nanxian belonged to Jingzhou area in Hubei Province.

During the Three Kingdoms period, Zhou Yu led an army to capture Jiangling after Battle of Red Cliffs. After that, Sun Quan handed Nanjun over to Liu Bei, and Liu Bei moved the county administration to the previously established base public security. The southern county Taishou inscription brick was found in Wushan, Sichuan Province in the last century.

A family of archaeologists in Jingzhou found a lime-grey brick with the words “South County” carved into it on the Ying Wall. Experts in literature and history say this is the first time the“Southern County” has been proved.
