Plant seeds are transmitted by self-propagation, by wind, by hydraulic transmission, by birds, by animals, etc.
In nature, many plants do not rely on human sowing, but rely on other ways to spread seeds for reproduction. So what do plant seeds rely on to spread? Let’s get to know.
Details
01
Self-transmission: is to rely on plants to spread on their own, do not need to rely on other media. The seed has its own weight, after ripening, the seed will fall directly to the ground due to the action of gravity, and some seeds will crack after ripening and eject the seed.
02
Wind transmission: Many seeds will grow appendages shaped like catkins or feathers, and fly with the help of wind, such as yellow quail, willow, and kapok; some small seeds have a relatively large ratio of surface area to weight. Therefore, the seeds can drift away in the wind and spread the seeds far away.
03
Hydraulic transmission: some seeds have wax on the surface, which will not touch water, and the specific gravity is lower than that of water, so they can float on the water surface and then spread through streams or ocean currents. Because the seed coat is often rich in fiber, it can prevent the seed from rotting or sinking due to soaking and water absorption.
04
Bird transmission: many seeds most of the fruit is high in meat content, birds like to peck at such fruits, seeds are not easy to digest, usually with the bird’s excrement excretion, or birds directly spit out the seeds.
05
Mammalian dispersal: Some seeds tend to stick to the body of an animal or on its food, and when the animal runs, it often spreads the seeds further afield.
