The original intention of establishing World Environment Day dates back to the 60s of the last century, with the increasingly serious environmental and ecological damage around the world, which attracted the attention of the international community at that time, so the “World Environment Day” was established in Stockholm and the “United Nations Environmental Planning Deployment” was formulated in Nairowa, Kenya.

From June 5th to 15th, 1972, the United Nations held the first human environment conference in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, and adopted the “Declaration on the Human Environment” and the “Action Plan” to protect the global environment. The slogan of protecting and improving the environment “is also the first conference in human history to study the protection of the human environment on a global scale.

In the “Declaration on the Human Environment”, a total of 7 common views and 26 common principles are put forward, the purpose is to promote and inspire people all over the world to protect and improve the human environment. The goal of “protecting and improving the environment for present and future generations” is becoming more and more urgent. For this reason, the meeting decided to designate the opening day of the meeting as “World Environment Day”.

The purpose of the World Environment Day is to alert the world to the state of the Earth and the harm to the environment caused by human activities, the United Nations system and governments are therefore called upon to undertake many activities on this day to emphasize the importance of protecting and improving the human environment.
